From Dickinson

Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport is the closest commercial-airport approach: about 42 road miles and roughly 45 minutes east of Medora on I-94. Service is limited, so compare the full flight-and-car itinerary rather than airfare alone.

From Bismarck

Bismarck Airport is about 138 road miles east, usually a little over two hours before stops. It can offer a more useful flight schedule than Dickinson, but adds rental-car time and crosses from Central Time into Mountain Time before Medora.

From Billings or Rapid City

Billings and Rapid City are regional-road-trip choices, not short transfers. Each is roughly 260 to 290 road miles from Medora and can take about five hours before weather, construction, fuel, or meal stops.

Plan on a rental car

Medora has no practical airport-to-park transit. A car is needed for the South Unit scenic road, Painted Canyon, lodging outside town, and any Dickinson airport arrival. Reserve the vehicle with the flight rather than assuming rural inventory will be available at the counter.

Fuel before the South Unit drive

The South Unit has no fuel or food service. Top off in Medora or Dickinson before committing to the scenic road, especially if the day includes repeated wildlife stops, a trail, or an evening event back in town.

Put Mountain Time on the itinerary

Bismarck and most of North Dakota use Central Time; Medora uses Mountain Time. The westbound drive gains an hour, while an eastbound airport return loses it. Keep flight times in the airport's local zone and show reservations in Medora's.

Check two roads before departure

Review North Dakota road conditions for I-94 and NPS conditions for the South Unit separately. Interstate travel can be clear while park construction, weather, or wildlife management changes access inside the park.
