Saturday: South Unit scenic drive and a Medora show night
Start at the South Unit Visitor Center, see the Maltese Cross Cabin, then follow the open scenic-road segments for overlooks, prairie dog towns, wildlife, and one short walk.

Start with coffee, breakfast, and a realistic departure.
Bring breakfast and water if the group wants an early park start, because there are no restaurants or lodging services inside the South Unit.

Main activity
Drive the South Unit from the visitor center
Allow at least two hours for the 36-mile scenic drive before adding wildlife stops or trails. Ask the visitor center about current road work and avoid Ridgeline Nature Trail while its access remains closed after the road collapse.

Afternoon
Return to Medora before the evening reservation
Leave enough time to shower, eat, and reach the Burning Hills Amphitheatre. The Pitchfork Steak Fondue and Medora Musical are seasonal, ticketed events rather than guaranteed walk-up stops.

Dinner
Reserve dinner at Pitchfork Steak Fondue.
A seasonal outdoor buffet built around steaks cooked on pitchforks, with western sides and a hilltop setting beside the Medora Musical amphitheater.
Sunday
Sunday: western history or Painted Canyon before I-94
Choose Chateau de Mores or the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame if you want more Medora history. Painted Canyon is the shorter final stop for an eastbound departure.
